Materials and Sample Library Manager
Openbook is looking for a highly organised professional to take charge of our materials and sample library.
This is a new role, created as part of a structured action plan to keep our collection up to date, well organised and accessible to every project team. You will lead the initial cataloguing of the existing collection and then manage the library on an ongoing basis. You will also be the in-house point of contact for advice on materials and catalogues.
Responsibilities
- Catalogue the existing collection of materials and samples using our management platform
- Select the catalogues to keep and identify those to be discontinued
- Remove obsolete materials and refine the structure of the management platform
- Help present the platform to the team and explain the ongoing maintenance process
- Keep the materials and sample library organised and up to date
- Meet suppliers and register new catalogues and samples
- Make sure obsolete materials are recycled and disposed of responsibly
- Collect samples on loan to project teams at regular intervals
- Advise project teams on the materials available and how well they suit each project
Abilities
- Background in Architecture, Interior Design, Product Design, Engineering, Management or a related field (valued, not essential)
- Previous experience in managing materials or samples, a materials library or a similar role (valued)
- Knowledge of construction and finishing materials and how they are applied (valued)
- Strong organisational and document management skills
- Comfortable using digital management and cataloguing platforms
- Working knowledge of Excel and Word
- Rigour, a detail-oriented approach and a strong sense of organisation
- Autonomy and a proactive attitude
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
